Dear Friends for the Cause:
As a result of House Bill 1863, for the preservation and restoration of
Pennsylvania's monuments at Gettysburg, we have reached a compromise agreement
with myself, as prime sponsor of HB 1863, the Governor's office, Pennsylvania
Historical and Museum Commission and Representative Paul Clymer, Chairman of the
House State Government Committee.
We will use a concurrent resolution, both House and Senate, to establish a
select committee to utilize non-profit organizations as the catalyst to raise
funds for the restoration and preservation of Pennsylvania's monuments at
Gettysburg.
I whole-heartedly support this resolution and request your support of the
resolution. Believe me, this will work.
This committee's work will begin on May 27, 1998. We will keep you posted as I
will be a member of this committee and you have my assurance that this effort
will not be in vain and we welcome your participation and we will reach our goal
of restoration and endowment of Pennsylvania's 147 monuments at Gettysburg.
I thank all of you for your hard work, dedication and having faith that we could
accomplish what we set out to do. I hope you will join me in supporting this
resolution.
Sincerely,
Harry A. Readshaw
